Technorati Tags!

April 10th, 2005 1 comment

As some of you may have noticed, I’ve now integrated my blog (partially) with Technorati.

I’ve now categorised all of my 147 posts (this is number 147), which took bloody ages.

At some point I’ll integrate the categories with the site page so that you can browse by category as well.

I’m particularly pleased that I have managed to create a new Technorati Tag of “Suicidal Birds”.

Excellent!

Arrrggh!

No, no, no, no, no!

Stupid bloody birds!

I managed to get another today (actually, I don’t think I did, but bear with me). Again, I was driving to rowing, and a bird flew across the road in front of my car, appeared to get caught up in the air flow around the car and got flung up, over the bonnet, up the windscreen, and probably shot into orbit somehow. I didn’t actually hit the bird this time, but it must have come pretty close. I looked in the rear-view mirror, and couldn’t see it so I’m not sure what happened.

Worse still, I have to drive through a fairly major town to get to the reservoir where I row, and I saw two pigeons pecking something in the road (in my lane). I drive up to them, thinking that they will move, but no. They keep pecking, but then they see the big silver movey thing (i.e. my car) and panic, but the don’t fly away. Oh no, that would be too easy. Instead, they start running along the road. It was only when I shouted “Get out the bloody way!” that they actually moved.

There’s a severe problem with this thing at the minute, and I appear to be the only person who has spotted it.

More Suicidal Birds

March 25th, 2005 1 comment

It’s happened again.

On my way to rowing this morning, a bird flew into the side of my car as I drove along, because it was chasing its mate that had flown right in front of my car (but fortunately I missed that one). I assume that the bird that hit the car died pretty much instantly (it made a good thump noise).

So that’s two now, within the space of a couple of months.

And then it almost happened on the way home as well. Thinking about it, I almost got a pheasent the other day on the way home from work which decided to run towards (instead of away from) my car as I drove passed it. It then took off narrowly missing my car, and the car that was coming the other way.

Jesus, may be somebody should invent some form of aviary prozac.

Lazy Spelling and Suicidal Birds

February 18th, 2005 No comments

I noticed the other day on a packet of sandwiches, that somebody had at work, that the company who produced them had described that as “lo-fat” and “lo-salt”. That really annoys me. It’s one letter. Just one letter. Surely you can’t be so lazy as to not put in the final letter on a three letter word. It’s not as if it is a difficult word to spell, it’s not a long word, but yet they are too lazy (or worse yet, they are so “hip”) that think they don’t need to put on the final letter of the word. Unbelievable.

I’ve also noticed recently, and particularly last week, that there have been an increase of suicidal birds that feel they want to end it all by flying at very low level (about 3 cms off the ground) across roads, right in front of my car. Is there something about this time of year that increases depression in bird species? Or perhaps they need urban-training – like the fox I saw last night that has obviously been well trained as it tried to cross the road on a zebra crossing!

Oh dear.

On the way to work this morning, I killed a bird with my car. That’s the first animal I managed to kill, and I’ve been driving over 5 years now. Guess it had to happen at some point.

The worse thing is, when I got out the car in the car park at work, the front and side of my car are covered in feathers.Eww, gonna have to clean that off.
