Dancing Like a white boy!

May 8th, 2006 No comments

Well, I had an experience on Saturday night! I went out with one of my friends, and some of her friends from her old job. Went to a few nice pubs and bars in Hove, and then ended up in a place called “Bar Rogue” on the sea front in Brighton.

I now know where the entire black population of Brighton go clubbing! There were so many people there wishing they were American rappers, it was hilarious. I also managed to survive the night without too much trouble.

So, in order to help anyone else out who might find themselves in this situation in the future, here’s “Mark’s Rough Guide to Not Getting A Cap in Ya Ass”:

  1. Drink – It will make everything just that little bit better
  2. Dance like you don’t care – You stand out like a sore thumb anyway, so you might as well enjoy it (see point 1).
  3. Dance with your shoulders – Most music, you can dance by moving your hips only. To survive you need to move your shoulders in a popping motion as well. See points 1 and 2
  4. Hold Your Ground – Men will dance with their back touching yours and will try to push you out the way. Stay firm. Hold your ground. They will go away eventually. May need dutch courage for this (see point 1).
  5. Avoid the guys in white vests – They are huge. Or if you feel like a challenge, see point 1 first.

Bumper Action Packed Weekend

April 3rd, 2005 No comments

I’ve had quite an active weekend, and I’m only now able to get in front of a ‘puter to blog about it.

I had a brilliant night out on Friday night in Crawley. One of the girls I (used to) work with had a leaving do, so we went out for drinks at a pub after work, followed by dinner in Crawley, and then on to Bar Med.

It was the first time that I have out in Crawley on a night out, and it wasn’t too bad. I’d actually made it into the queue for Bar Med before, but we decided to go home early instead! Wonderfully, I managed to sleep at my brother’s flat, even though he and Vicky were away on holiday.

Worse bit was when I had to get up a 7:30 the next morning for rowing.

Then last night, I took my good friend Emma out into Brighton, as she hadn’t been out in Brighton on a weekend before. It was a bit of an education for her, and for me as well, as we went to a new club called “The Arc”, which is an “Indie” music club.

I hadn’t been there before but one of my friends has been raving about it for ages. I was a bit worried that it was going to be a bit dark and dingy, and would probably have sticky seats, but actually I was quite surprised. Not only was it well lit, it was all resonably priced, and the music they played was amazing. Definitely somewhere to go again!

God, I’m tired. Better go play with the huge water pistol my mum bought me yesterday! I think I’ll soak the kids next door!

A Weekend In Maidstone

January 30th, 2005 No comments

I’ve just got back from a lovely weekend in Maidstone with my friend Jemma. I met her work colleagues, and also managed to talk with her sister, who I used to go to school with.

Maidstone does appear to be quite a nice little town, (when I say little…. you know what I mean). I even managed to see some rowing boats stored by the side of the Medway.
