It never ceases to amaze me how simple it is to upgrade a WordPress installation. In fact, just how easy it is to play with WordPress configurations in general.

I’ve now had to upgrade WP twice since going-live with it, due to various bug fixes and security fixes. Each time, it’s been a simple process of downloading the latest version, and copying files across. Nothing major, and nothing taxing. There are a few gotchas, but the documentation tells you precisely what to do and how to avoid them.

Even when I was beta testing WP and importing existing posts in to WP, I was investigating how to move it from one directory to another (so that it didn’t run in a subdirectory). Doing that, I thought, would be a complicated process. Not so. It’s still fairly simple, and most importantly, the WordPress documentation has a document about precisely how to move the files around, what order to do it in and how not to break stuff (although I did, and was quickly able to fix that thanks to the documentation).

That, is precisely how software should be. Simple, as long as you’re not scared about moving files around.

Yup, it’s true, I’ve finally updated this site. As promised previously, it now runs off of a WordPress engine, and has a new theme. I’ve also cleared out the cobwebs and got rid of a load of tat that was unfinished and was lingering around.

The other bonus of this, means that I’m now writing my first blog post on my iPhone.

Brilliant!

It’s mostly down to the fact that I have been so bloody busy recently that I haven’t had time to even think about anything other that work!

To cut a long story short, my company are sending me to Australia. I have a lot of work to do in the time between now and when they were going to send me. So far, as well as two 37 and a half weeks, I’ve clocked up another 23 hours of overtime.

I’ve just found out that the date I leave on could be up to two weeks later than we originally expected. That’s good, as it gives me more time to prepare, and means that I can take some time off on flexi-time so that I can catch up on some sleep! It is bad though because they could have told me sooner, and it means that I could have raced at the Kingston Regatta next weekend! Damn them!

Never mind, I still get a trip to Australia out of it!

Secondly, I haven’t blogged that much in those months, guess I’m too busy or something. Compare the number of posts in the archive from May 2006 to January 2005, and you realise how little I’ve done!

Finally, I’ve now done over 300 posts. I managed it the other day without even realising it. Fortunately, number 300 was a good one, Dancing Like a White Boy!

I guess the reason is that I have been quite busy recently. Not one thing in particular, but lots of little things here and there! So in no particular order:

I’ve hurt my shoulder rowing

Saw “The Darkness” the other day in Brighton – Amazing

A particularly fabulous person bought me “Alice Cooper – Classicks” – he still rocks.

At work, I’ve been pimped-out to the Web Development department – expect a rewrite of this site soon!

Volunteered to do the London to Brighton Bike Ride this year – should be fun!

It’s my birthday this Friday – Rich, doesn’t seem like a year ago you came down for my last birthday! Feel like doing it this year?

Broken my second iPod in one year

Bought iPod shuffle (see above! Can’t break the HDD in that little bugger!)

Plus many more things I have forgotten about!

We spent 5 minutes this morning tearing down the decorations, which will probably end up in the bin – we are moving offices this year, and we won’t have anywhere to store them until next Christmas, so we will probably have to buy a new set then too.

It seems to have gone incredibly quickly this year (or 2005 at least). Last year’s Christmas seemed to last forever, where as this time, its flown by. Must be getting old.
