This Sounds Like Fun

January 21st, 2005 No comments

An advert from a paper’s classified adsWanted. 30 Chinamen and a zeppelin for elaborate practical joke. Can you help?

I love. Sheer comedy genius. Well done

Seen Here

Apparently this is a brilliant piece of comedy by the amazing Jimmy Carr. I also noticed today that the phone number is one digit short, so it is probably a joke. Well done, though, Jimmy.

Man Finds Nail In Head

January 17th, 2005 No comments

Truely bizarre. A nail gun back fires on a man, a week later he finds that a toothache is caused by a nail embedded through the roof of his mouth.

Apparently though, it’s not an isolated problemDoctors at the hospital said it was the second time a patient had failed to notice a nailgun had fired a nail into their heads. And it’s not just Americans

Another Brilliant Idea

Living In A Tube Map

The idea is simple: Pick a tube station that you haven’t been to. Go there. Take photos of the surrounding area. Upload pictures.

The idea is a bit more involved than that, but that is the general idea. Basically, they want to get people out and about and to make a day of their visit. Eventually, once the map is complete, the pictures will be displayed in an exhibition.

Wow, this is quite weird

Apparently, according to The Times“For boys, there is a 35% increase in the likelihood of marriage for each 16-point rise in IQ. For girls, there is a 40% drop for each 16-point increase.”So intelligent men like stupid women? (I know that is a very cras and over-simplified version, but you can see where I’m coming from). Personally (although I’m single), my preference is for women who can hold their own in a conversation. Does that make me stupid?

Linux and USB-Key

January 15th, 2005 No comments

I was quite surprised at how easy it was for me to install a USB memory key on my Linux desktop (runs Fedora Core 3)

This site tells you how to do it, and it appeared to work perfectly (I didn’t go through the step of adding the icon though – it seemed to appear by itself!)

Only problem is, when I unmounted and removed the key, then reinserted it again, it didn’t auto mount.

It appears the problem was that it appeared as a different device on my machine (instead of being on /dev/sda1 is was on /dev/sdb1)

Once I changed the mount point everything worked. If I then did the same again (remove/reinsert) the device seemed to stay on /dev/sdb1 – I’m waiting to see what happens next time I plug it in!

As a note, this site seems to point out that each device doesn’t always map to the same point, and therefore you should always check /var/log/messages to see where the device was positioned.

Here’s a couple of good ideas!

January 15th, 2005 1 comment

I’ve been looking on t’internet today for things to do with blogging.

This site brings together a list of blogs for people that work or live in London, and ties them to the Tube Station that they are nearest to!

And this site lets you specify that you are blogging and you are from the UK and then aggregates your RSS feed (here’s mine) into a big long list of posts.

The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction

January 15th, 2005 No comments

Sometimes the truth is just far too bizarre to actually believe. This post lists how the US Air Force were planning to produce an “aphrodisiac bomb” to make enemy soldiers appear sexually irrestible to each other and engage in homosexuality, leaving them with a nasty piece of embarassment to cope with.

Who thinks of these things?

Prince Harry

January 13th, 2005 No comments

It’s good to see that Prince Harry has been successfully promoting the British public and has indeed inherited his Grandfather’s knack of international relations!

I saw this genius quote on Small Values about this whole issue:Prince Harry urged to visit Auschwitz. Good idea, but leave the uniform at home, eh?
