Uninstalling McAfee Anti-Virus

I’ve just uninstalled McAfee from my Vista laptop. It’s soooooo much quicker now. Firefox starts up so much quicker it’s unbelievable.

Still feel like I need a RAM boost, but it’s a definite good start!

World’s Scariest Hiking Trail

My god!….

Unbelievable!

We had a major shock when we arrived at the reservoir this morning. The entire reservoir was frozen. We’ve never seen anything like that before – small ice patches, and certains arms of the reservoir, sure, buy not the whole damn thing!

Considering that yesterday, there was no ice at all (thanks to the wind); and that the ice was pretty thick (about 1cm), it must have got pretty cold last night!

Oh My Word

Dear God! I never ever thought that things would get this cheap. £2 for a DVD player?

Syncing Facebook to Google Calendar to the iPhone

How almost awesome is this!

Syncing Facebook to Google Calendar to the iPhone.

It describes how to take your Facebook Events, and get them into Google Calendar, then you can get them synchronised to you mobile device using Google Sync (I’ve done that last bit already.) This will save a bit of a headache.

I was prompted to look for this by the recent upgrade to the iPhone Facebook App, which now provides contact synchronisation with your Contacts on the phone. The problem I found wihth this though is that it’s very non-descriptive as to what it actually synchronises.

According to several newsgroup posts, it only synchronises the profile photo to the contact, and even then it overwrites the ones that you choose. So I went looking for a better solution, and found this diversion.

Oh My God

Oh my God Tesco, Holmbush Centre, Shoreham – NO!

It’s still bloody Christmas!

How to Try the New Google Search

Thanks to Gizmodo, I can now see the brilliant new Google interface. Seems to work extremely well.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t affect GMail either – I can’t wait to get my eyes on that new theme!

Word 2003 – Elusive White Space

Oh thank fuck for that!

For a while, I’ve had a problem with Word 2oo3. Whenever I started a new document based on the Normal Template, I could see the vertical ruler, but I could not see the margins at the top and the bottom of the page. This meant that whenever I typed anything, the text appeared at the very top of the page. If I clicked the ruler, and tried to drag the margins, nothing happened.

Today, I had to write a new document, and it needed to look professional, so I decided that I needed to fix it. The Microsoft Office website was a heap of crap, so I Googled it and quite quickly came across the following page:

Elusive White Space.

A quick click at the bottom of the page resolved the issue for me!

Turns out, I hadn’t buggered up my template, Word was doing that by design. Genius……

An Interesting Lesson

I’ve just discovered something interesting.

If you put hot water, with some drops of Olbas Oil in it, into a polystyrene cup….

The Olbas Oil eats the polystyrene.

I now have a wet desk.

BBC iPlayer to hit Freesat boxes by month’s end • Register Hardware

Hell yeah!

iPlayer HD on my Freesat HD Box. Sooooo want this to be good……

BBC iPlayer to hit Freesat boxes by month’s end • Register Hardware.

Now need to go home and work out the best way to plug my Freesat HD box into my network. A switch near the network wall socket makes sense, then I can hook up my Blu-Ray player too. That’ll be MythTV box, Freesat HD box and Blu-Ray player on the same switch.
